Learn to speak Vietnamese out loud

Vietnamese uses the Latin alphabet, so you can read it right away, but the tones mean you need to hear and say it.

How it works

Four steps for every Vietnamese sentence

One loop you repeat on every sentence, ending with you speaking Vietnamese out loud.

  1. Step 1

    Order

See a Vietnamese sentence and rebuild it in English from a bank of words.

  2. Step 2

    Translate

See the English and build the sentence in Vietnamese, word by word.

  3. Step 3

    Listen

Hear the sentence spoken in Vietnamese, then type what you understood.

  4. Step 4

    Speak

Say it out loud in Vietnamese and see which words landed and which to try again.

Speaking Vietnamese

Why speak Vietnamese from day one

Vietnamese has six tones, and the same letters change meaning with pitch. Hearing every sentence and saying it aloud is the only way to train that.

A sentence to start with

Tôi muốn một ly cà phê.

I would like a coffee.

Vietnamese questions, answered

Can I learn Vietnamese for free with 4ToSpeak?

Yes. The free plan needs no card and has no time limit. You get 25 daily energy, about 3 to 4 full lessons a day, and the whole module store is open to you (some modules cost coins you earn by practising).

How does 4ToSpeak teach Vietnamese speaking?

Every Vietnamese sentence goes through four steps: you order it, translate it, listen and type it, then say it out loud. The last step is the point. You hear how close you were, word by word, instead of tapping an answer.

Do I need a microphone to practise Vietnamese?

Yes, for the speaking step. Your browser asks permission the first time, and it works on a phone, a tablet or a computer. The other three steps work without one.

Do I need to know any Vietnamese already?

No. Lessons start from short everyday Vietnamese sentences and build up, so you can begin from nothing.

Is Vietnamese hard to learn for English speakers?

It takes longer than European languages because of the tones. The grammar is simple, with no verb conjugation.
