How it works

Four steps for every Burmese sentence

One loop you repeat on every sentence, ending with you speaking Burmese out loud.

  1. Step 1

    Order

See a Burmese sentence and rebuild it in English from a bank of words.

  2. Step 2

    Translate

See the English and build the sentence in Burmese, word by word.

  3. Step 3

    Listen

Hear the sentence spoken in Burmese, then type what you understood.

  4. Step 4

    Speak

Say it out loud in Burmese and see which words landed and which to try again.

Speaking Burmese

Why speak Burmese from day one

The sounds, rhythm and word order of Burmese stick when you produce them, not when you recognise them. Each sentence you say out loud gets you closer to the way a real Burmese speaker talks, and the speaking step shows you which words you landed.

Burmese is written in the Burmese script. You hear and say each sentence while you learn to read it, so the writing system is never a wall in front of speaking.

Burmese questions, answered

Can I learn Burmese for free with 4ToSpeak?

Yes. The free plan needs no card and has no time limit. You get 25 daily energy, about 3 to 4 full lessons a day, and the whole module store is open to you (some modules cost coins you earn by practising).

How does 4ToSpeak teach Burmese speaking?

Every Burmese sentence goes through four steps: you order it, translate it, listen and type it, then say it out loud. The last step is the point. You hear how close you were, word by word, instead of tapping an answer.

Do I need a microphone to practise Burmese?

Yes, for the speaking step. Your browser asks permission the first time, and it works on a phone, a tablet or a computer. The other three steps work without one.

Do I need to know any Burmese already?

No. Lessons start from short everyday Burmese sentences and build up, so you can begin from nothing.

What script does Burmese use?

Burmese is written in the Burmese script. You do not have to master it before you start. You hear and say each sentence while you learn to read it.
