Learn to speak Irish out loud

Most Irish courses stop at recognising words. In 4ToSpeak every Irish sentence ends with you saying it, so the skill you build is the one a real conversation asks for.

How it works

Four steps for every Irish sentence

One loop you repeat on every sentence, ending with you speaking Irish out loud.

  1. Step 1

    Order

See a Irish sentence and rebuild it in English from a bank of words.

  2. Step 2

    Translate

See the English and build the sentence in Irish, word by word.

  3. Step 3

    Listen

Hear the sentence spoken in Irish, then type what you understood.

  4. Step 4

    Speak

Say it out loud in Irish and see which words landed and which to try again.

Speaking Irish

Why speak Irish from day one

The sounds, rhythm and word order of Irish stick when you produce them, not when you recognise them. Each sentence you say out loud gets you closer to the way a real Irish speaker talks, and the speaking step shows you which words you landed.

Irish questions, answered

Can I learn Irish for free with 4ToSpeak?

Yes. The free plan needs no card and has no time limit. You get 25 daily energy, about 3 to 4 full lessons a day, and the whole module store is open to you (some modules cost coins you earn by practising).

How does 4ToSpeak teach Irish speaking?

Every Irish sentence goes through four steps: you order it, translate it, listen and type it, then say it out loud. The last step is the point. You hear how close you were, word by word, instead of tapping an answer.

Do I need a microphone to practise Irish?

Yes, for the speaking step. Your browser asks permission the first time, and it works on a phone, a tablet or a computer. The other three steps work without one.

Do I need to know any Irish already?

No. Lessons start from short everyday Irish sentences and build up, so you can begin from nothing.

What script does Irish use?

Irish is written in the Latin alphabet, so you can start reading it straight away. The speaking steps cover the sounds that differ from English.
